Local Programs Help Stretch Food Dollars and Fight Hunger

If you are a household struggling to put healthy food on the table or looking for ways to stretch your food dollars, two new community programs may be able to help. Ruby’s Pantry and Angel Food Ministries offer quality low cost food items for households across Waushara County.

Ruby’s Pantry Food Distribution is typically held the first Saturday of each month at the Crossroads Family Church, 640 S. Water Street Wautoma. Registration begins at 8am with distribution taking place from 9-11am. The next distribution will be held in Wautoma on Saturday, September 4th.

Ruby’s Pantry is a Christian non-profit whose mission is to distribute corporate surplus food to help fight poverty and hunger in rural communities.  All who are in need are welcome. Individuals and families wishing to participate are encouraged to bring boxes or laundry baskets to carry the food received, as large quantities of food are given out.  Volunteers assist in the food distribution and even load boxes of food in your car! A cash donation is appreciated to help offset costs, but not required to receive food.

Ruby’s Pantry Food Distribution is a partnership between local faith communities begun by Crossroads Family Church and Grace United Methodist Church. Additional faith communities and volunteers are invited to join the effort sharing gifts of time and/or funding to offset costs.

Angel Food Ministries is also available through Grace United Methodist Church in Wautoma as a way to save money on your food budget.  Angel Food Ministries buys a variety of fresh food in bulk and sells it in prepackaged boxes once a month at a savings of over 50%. The monthly menu of products is posted at www.angelfoodministries.com and on display at Grace United Methodist Church located at N2133 Southgate Terrace in Wautoma (off Hwy. 22 South). Menus are available to accommodate special diets. Sign up and payments are due in advance of delivery.  The next order will be submitted by August 22.  Pickup is August 28 at 1:30-2:00 p.m. at Grace UMC.

To learn more about these programs, stop by Grace United Methodist Church on Monday-Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until Noon or Sunday morning, call 787-4668, or e-mail the church at www.graceumcwautoma.org.
