As an organization, our mission is to serve as “a network of committed community members and organizations that collaborate and advocate for effective prevention programs serving
Waushara County, Wisconsin.”

Our vision is to be “a visible, proactive and inclusive resource promoting effective
prevention efforts to meet the changing needs of our communities….”

The Waushara Prevention Council Inc. has established working committees to carry out its mission and work in the community. Current committees include:

History:

The Waushara Prevention Council held its first meeting in March 1990 when a small group of individuals and agencies joined together to discuss forming a local prevention coalition. With collaboration as a key, the Waushara Prevention Council was formed and began its journey to address community needs.

The organization initiated the development of the CAP-Family Resource Center, local Habitat for Humanity Chapter, and the Child Care Resource & Referral Center. Through a variety of grants and partnerships, the council facilitated youth mentoring, after school programs, youth leadership, home visiting, a community resource directory, weekly newspaper columns addressing prevention topics, affordable family recreation, Family & Community Town Suppers and other projects to benefit the community.

The Waushara Prevention Council was recognized as a function of Waushara County by County Board Resolution No. 05-02-99.

The Waushara Prevention Council, Inc. became a federally recognized 501 (c) (3) organization in July 2003.

The Waushara Prevention Council, Inc. is a member of the Northwood’s Coalition, the Alliance for Wisconsin Youth, and the Marshfield Clinic Volunteer Wisconsin AmeriCorps Program.
