Mission: Encourages aging adults to continue active healthy lives.

Vision: Exploring unmet needs, services, and existing services, opportunities

 

Present: Deb, Amanda, Helen, Taylor, Pat and Tom

Start: 2:00 p.m.

Active Aging Articles –

March – Activities at Senior Center/Buddy Up and Read – Deb

April – Master Gardeners – Jackie Schaffer (Deb to contact)

May- Food Drive – Amanda

June – Fishing – Tom

July – Nutrition – Taylor

Aug – Parks Assessment – Amanda

Sept- Community Fair – Deb

Possible new areas/ideas:

  • Monthly brown bag lunch in summer @ outside venue like Wild

Rose Hotel deck overlooking mill pond to encourage seniors/disabled to get out and

Socialize

  • Monthly trips for some outing to get people interacting.
  • Advocate for handicap accessibility in area restaurants.

Areas of Priorities for 2017         

  1. A+ Program will be replaced by Buddy Up and Read program. Deb is looking for more participation in current program.
  2. Trails & Parks Assessment: To be discussed at March meeting
  3. Healthy Aging Website: Amanda reported the tabs for Physical Activity, Nutrition and

Volunteer Opportunities are up now on site.  Possible to add the Buddy Up and Read

Under volunteer opportunities.  Deb to come up with article for it.

  1. Community Fair: to be discussed at later meetings
  2. Senior Center Activities: Same ones offered.
  3. TiChi: The next class will start March 14 on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:30 to 10:30.
  4. Update Active Aging brochure with a picture: plan to take group picture at next meeting.
  5. Donation: Amanda was notified that a person would like to make a small donation to the Activity Aging committee.  Discussion was weather to set up separate account or just have money in main prevention council account with note that it was for Active Aging.  All agreed to not set up separate account to just leave in main account with note on it.
  6. Future meeting dates set: March 21, April 11, May 9, June 13, July 11, August 8, September 12, October 10, November 14, no meeting in December.  All meetings to be held from 2 p.m. – 3 p.m.

 

Next Meeting & Future Agenda Items: The next meeting is on March 21, 2017 at 2:00.
