Active Aging Committee

Waushara – Wautoma Senior Center

2:00pm – May 16, 2016

 

Mission: Encourages aging adults to continue active, healthy lives.

Vision: Exploring unmet needs, services, and existing services, opportunities.

 

Present: Helen, Bev, Deb, Amanda, Trevor and Pat

 

Articles-

The following articles are set:

May – Food Drive at Senior Dining Centers – Amanda

June – Farmer’s Markets, Community Gardens, Vouchers- Patrick Nehring

July – Report on the drive/food pantry – Amanda

August – Alzheimer’s Awareness Month – Ask Sue Seefeldt about writing an article

September – Article will be written about the upcoming Community Fair – Deb and Amanda

October – Trails and Parks assessment – Amanda

November – Diabetes Awareness Month – Amanda

December –

 

**These articles can be submitted to Amanda at any time. She will program them as to when they are due at the Argus.

 

 

  • Trevor’s Presentation on Brian health: Trevor shared a power point that he developed to show at the meal sites. Pat offered to present the information and will work with Amanda at setting up dates. Amanda and Deb will work on developing a resource that lists the places, times and costs of “Get Moving” type activities that will be given out at the time of the presentations.

 

  • Areas of Priorities for 2016 (Prevention Council meeting)
    1. A+ program – no new info
    2. Trails and parks assessment – Committee will meet at Lake Alpine on June 7 at 2:00. Amanda will bring a list of what we will be assessing.
    3. Food Drive (June 14-24) – info is going in the June Loose Ends issue and Senior Center Newsletter
    4. Healthy Aging Website: Exercise Opportunities will be listed once the site is up and running.
    5. Community Fair (October) $10.00/table. Master Gardners and AARP will be there
    6. Senior Activities at Waushara-Wautoma Senior Center:

Art class is the second and fourth Tuesdays from 1:00 to 2:00

Knitting and Crocheting club will be from 9:30 to 11:30 the first Tuesday of the month. Bring your own projects and socialize. Cost is $1.00.

Music on the Lawn will be held on June 5 from 1-3. Food will be for sale.

Membership Picnic is July 19 with games available including the Wii.                                   People are to bring a dish to pass.

July 21 there will be a Health Literacy presentation from someone from the                                       state. There may also be a drug drop and pharmacist present.

 

  • Photovoicing Project: This will be happening in June or July. All meal sites will participate in taking pictures of their communities encouraging or discouraging physical activity.

 

  • Active Aging Brochure and picture: Amanda will bring a camera to Lake Alpine to get some pictures for the brochure.

 

  • Alpine Lake: Meet June 7 at 2:00. Amanda will bring a camera.

Next meeting: June 7 – Lake Alpine at 2:00. Bev, Helen and Pat will meet at the Senior Center at 1:45 and drive together.
