Areas of Priorities for 2016 (Prevention Council meeting)

  1. A+ program – There will be a sewing class offered in April and the A+ program needs volunteers to help. Two from the Senior Center have already signed up to help. Deb will put feelers out to quilt clubs. Kids will be signing up for the class. Dates are not yet set.
  2. Trails and parks assessment will start in May at Lake Alpine. If we find that benches are needed on trails for sitting we will see if there are scouts working on their Eagle Badges if they would be interested in making them. The Aldo Leopold Benches pattern could be a possibility to use.
  3. Food Drive (June 14-24) – Amanda shared the flyer that she will be sending to the meal sites at the end of May.
  4. Healthy Aging Website – no update
  5. Community Fair (October) – no update
  6. Senior Activities at Waushara-Wautoma Senior CenterSee Art Class update
  • Increasing members update – Deb has been playing phone tag with Chelsie Vezina. Amanda will ask Liah Van Gompel if she knows of anyone who might be interested.

  • Art Class update – The art class started today. It is being held the second and fourth Tuesday of the month from 1 – 2. The cost is $1.50 for supplies. Carole is teaching the class.

  • Technology class update – Fox Valley Tech offers a number of computer classes. The committee doesn’t want to offer any program that they might already be offering.

  • Trevor update – Trevor’s AmeriCorps term is up in August. He is going to come up with a powerpoint on things people can do for a Healthy Brain. The powerpoint will be able to be used at the meal sites. Presentor to be determined.

  • Information or photographs for Active Aging brochures – The AmeriCorps member, Eli, is working for the Waushara Prevention Council. Amanda showed the brochure she made for the countil. Amanda asked for ideas she can give to Eli on the Active Aging Committee for a brochure for the committee. The committee suggested a number of different pictures to use: Community Fair, Lake Alpine visit, art class, A+ program, food drive etc.
